Your Solar Shower Guide
Here are key considerations and common mistakes for installing and using a poolside solar shower.
Sun Exposure:
The most common error is placing it in shade. For effective heating, the unit must be in full, direct sunlight and tilted toward the sun, not laid flat.
Secure Mounting:
A full shower is very heavy. Do not hang it from a weak branch. Install it on a sturdy, anchored post that can support the weight and wind.
Water Temperature & Safety:
Users often underestimate how hot the water can get. On a sunny day, water can become scalding. Always test the temperature with your hand before stepping under it. Start with the shower head at its highest point to let cooler water flow first. Never leave the shower pressurized and unattended for long periods on extremely hot days.
Winterization and Maintenance:
Forgetting to completely drain the shower before the first freeze is a critical oversight. Water left inside will expand, cracking the internal tubes or the bag. Before cold weather, disconnect the hose, open the shower head, and let all water drain out. Regularly check connections for leaks, as constant sun exposure can degrade rubber washers over time.
By focusing on these points—full sun, strong support, temperature checks, and winter draining—you'll ensure a safe and long-lasting system.
